Does this make any sense?

Lets say a hosting company offers a package that states 6 Core CPU at 3.6GHz, would it mean that each core runs at 600MHz to make up 3600MHz or would each core run at 3600MHz?

If they dont state this on their website can i lay a formal complaint?

You don't add core clock speeds to get an overall clock speed. Each core should theoretically run up to 3600MHz

This is what i thought.

By their logic my home PC has a 19,200MHz CPU in it.

4800MHz x 4

So they're effectively only giving you 600Mhz?

Is this in a cloud/vps environment or a shared hosting server?

Have you done tests to see that you are, indeed, limited to 600Mhz per core?

VPS.

The advertised processing power is the total amount of CPU power you get: 3.6GHz

We used to offer 600MHz per core and we can switch your server to 3.6GHz across 6 cores, but this actually degrades performance and we have found that offering the total power across less cores is beneficial to end users.

Hi Rickster,

Sounds abnormal, your clock speed should be rated for each thread not the total.

if 4 cars travel at 120km/h each, they don`t travel 480km/h together.

But if a 10 ton truck travels at 120km/h and a small car travels at 120km/h, the truck is going faster.

Unless of course the car is carrying 1 ton of bricks and the 10 ton truck is carrying 10 tons of feathers

These jeeslus small time hosting companies.

What is the reason you chose said company if you don't mind my asking, ie> your criteria?

They are relying on this unscrupulous behaviour to sell their products. Something tells me they are prepared to stretch this out much longer than you are willing to let it go.

That is usually my experience with these sort of things
