Am I'm being taken for a ride?My connection to international sites has become excrutiatingly slow.Sometime I have to wait for pages to load.

Any pointers?

MySignal is showing these measurements :

Signal 6 to 11 % -94 to 100dBm
ber 28% to 42% -100bBm
S-N-L Hovering between 3 and 7

IP: 196.34.112.236

There is your problem. This is a slower IP range. Disconnect and reconnect until you get the 196.137 range. Looks like a sneaky method to slow down certain connections... saving on bandwidth I suppose. I've been having the same problem for around 2 weeks now - my ave speed is often under 56kbit/sec until I reconnect using 196.137.

when running loss98 it says dial-up connection.

Agree on the 37, not 137

inetnum: 196.36.0.0 - 196.39.127.255
netname: ISNET-07
descr: The Internet Solution

No match found for 196.137.0.1.

In my case it picks up the NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller

I used DrTCP to change my MTU to 1500 , checked the registry to see if the entry was created and it is indeed set to 1500.But then going back to SpeedGuide.net , I'm getting this :

"MTU = 1460
MTU is not fully optimized for broadband. Consider increasing your MTU to 1500 for better throughput. If you are using a router, it could be limiting your MTU regardless of Registry settings."

test with a ping

>ping dslreports.com -f -l 1492
(that is the letter l )
if you get DF set remarks then drop the number by 10 and or add 1 until you get the right number, that is mss, plus 28 is mtu - if I remember correctly.

1432 seems to be the right number.Anything higher than that comes back with DF set remarks

sorry, yea 37 is the correct number. Wasnt the 196.34 used for the 128 users?

May someone on the 256k share your download speeds please.Just wanna see what sort of speeds you're getting.

My signature has my speeds, although my downloading speeds are quicker than browsing. I often have 20 - 30K/sec downloads, while browsing is around 15 - 19K/sec. As mentioned before, more often than not, when I get the 196.34.xxx.xxx range, my speeds drop and browsing is around 4-7K/sec on a good day

Best speed I've got in the last week using TCPIQ was 57.09 KBits/sec (I'm on MyWi256). Most tests never completed - it was too slow.

Your download speed is: 24.01 KBps, or 192.12 Kbps
The test took 42.641 seconds to complete

Edit: My IP is 196.34.x.x

Changed my MTU to 1500. At least my uploaded are 100% of the advertised speed :)

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-03-26 04:20:06 EST:
170 / 142
Your download speed : 170 kbps or 21.3 KB/sec.

Your upload speed : 142 kbps or 17.7 KB/sec.

Pretty strange that 1500 MTU works at all. Nearly 2 years ago I had issues (some sites work, others not) after Sentech changed the MTU on their routers to 1458. Dunno if anything changed after that, but I keep my side at 1458 now. That ping test should confirm if Sentech's routers are happy with 1500...
