Does this quote (Aircon Compressor + receiver/dryer) sound right?

Hi there

The aircon in my SO's Honda Civic (2004) is making funny noises and not working like it should.

She got a quote to get the necessary parts replaced: Compressor + receiver/dryer and labour for a total of almost R6000.

Neither of us knows much more about cars than getting it refuelled every once in a while. Can some of the guru's here please enlighten me if the price sounds more or less in line with what one would expect it to cost? I don't have any reason to believe we're being taken for a ride, but it is always good practice to make sure. BTW, the quote is not from Honda, but from a different place in Cape Town.

Thanks!

If a new compressor is being installed, then the replacement of drier is routine. Cost is about right.

However, I would find out if the compressor can be recond. It could be the bearing that needs replacing.

Quite frankly it could be anything in the compressor. Take it to a proper aircon specialist, not a mechanic.

What sort of noises is it making?

Unfortunately, I have not heard it recently enough to properly describe - I don't currently have access to the car myself.

Thanks for the info though. That means we just need to find out why the compressor can't be reconditioned or repaired.

The quote is from an aircon specialist, so I'm going to assume that it in fact can't be repaired - we'll nonetheless make sure before proceeding. Thanks for your input!
