I'm changin my setup at home and have the ffg quote:

-installation of 2 HD PVR decoders for xtraview: R3 000
-1 twin dish kit- R750
2 x HDMI splitters kits R998
-50m X2 cat5 cable @ R7 per metre R700
-Cat5 Extender @ R695 each- R1390
- Labour R1 800
-Plugs and consumables: R295

Total R8 933

is it reasonable?

twin dish? wtf is a twin dish?

I will admit, that if it doesn't actuall INCLUDE the HDPVR's.. then its a bit steep, but if it does.. it doesn't seem that bad.

it includes the PVR's

Uhm...why is he using CAT5 cable and not Coax? And what's a CAT5 extender (considering CAT5 runs up to 92m)

I have absolutely NO IDEA....Thought I'd post here cos I have no knowledge of these things. Is coax better?

Uuuhm...Cat5 ?? Are you networking it like pc's or a NAS? And IF you use Cat 5 why would you need an extender...will the two PVR's be in different houses...in different neighbourhoods? Also paying R7 per meter for CAT5 is a rip-off...it costs R2 per meter to buy.

pvr's are in 2 houses on the same property about 20m away.
Dunno about the networking stuff.

Why dont you just buy the two HD PVRs yourself and save R200? They going at R1399 at HifiCorp.

Would prefer to have everything done by same company in case something stuff up...

Just make sure that when he drills through the outside wall into the house that he drills at an angle (obviously sloping towards the outside). It's common sense, but you'll be surprised how many installers don't do it and you end up with water running along the LNB cable into the house, causing dampness issues on the paint etc. Polifilling the hole is even better.

Great advice thx...
