Okay so here my stupid question, im prob right with the answer ne ways but dont want to recommend something to a friend that wont work.

Can you use a micro-atx mobo with a normal atx tower? ( i.e. will all the fixings still line up?

yes, it'll fit.

no,not just like that...the motherboard plate will have various holes tapped into it for standoffs to fit into...the holes tend to be marked..like A/M or atx/m etc...you want to put standoffs into the holes marked for microatx boards.

or just hold up the board to the motherboard plate and see where the standoffs need to be...remove the ones that dont match, otherwise it'll short out on the bottom.

p.s. this is STEP1. not being funny, but if you or your friend are getting stuck here then you will most likely make a big mistake somewhere else.
