Dog slow access from Linksfield tower

Hi

I'm having shockingly slow results from what is I assume the linksfield tower.

The link is fast (30Kbytes/sec) before 7AM but degrades to the degree where
it is damn near unusable by mid-morning and transfer rates have dropped to
a mere 4 or 5Kbytes/sec or worse. Horrid, horrid, horrid.

Anyone else having problems like this? And no it's not a new problem ... I'm
just fed up enough by now to start asking questions before I yell at someone.

Log a call! I logged a call, and they are trying to blame it on my signal. I am having issues with the Menlo tower tho. The service was useless on Monday, its much better today. They also said they dont know about a problem.

What gets me, is the Helderkruin & Horizon towers are fine. No problems at all.

Seems like the busy towers are taking a dive again, like the old days?
 
Hmmm, or maybe logging a call is a waste of time? They keep repeating themselves. Reboot the modem and get a booster antenna.

OK, so, a booster antenna will help speeds to be the same during the day as can be seen before 7 am... HOW?????

Packet latency is going haywire. Its random between 70ms and 3500ms the whole time. Aparantly "This is caused by partial coverage". Apart from this, there are times when you get no response at all, for at least 30 seconds at a time. The network just seems to go down.

BUT! The last two days have been much better than Monday, and the two weeks before that. So it has improved. Except that speeds are still only 50% compared to the 2 towers I get connect to at home.

Sentech told me to download WinMTR. Now, this utility can be used to get internet access in conjuction with MyWireless on one of these towers during
the afternoons:
LinksField or Menlo PArk.

See, When the web pages like www.sentech.co.za stop loading, then you run WinMTR and start pinging your favourite website or server or whatever.

Dont worry if you wait 2 minutes for a ping reply, that is normal. Especially if your reception is bad like mine, with SNL at 12 and Signal at 17%.

Just be patient. As soon as you see a ping reply in less than 2 seconds, (One second is pushing it), then you quickly refresh all your pages that
timed out. If you are lucky, the pages should load now.

And it works better than a booster antenna!
 
Uhhhh, waitaminute. It appears as if WinMTR is able to bring the network to its knees. If anyone asks who told you to use WinMTR, IT WASNT ME!!!!
 
Noswal, how is your download speed? Do you get 70%? I get about 70% at home, which is good, and 35% on Menlo tower, which is disappointing. And then the service degrades to a standstill during lunch or afternoons, some days are fine. Then Monday was bad from after 09:00 for the whole day...
 
On a lighter note, this from home, am I dreaming? ...

Ping statistics for 66.18.87.249:
Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 20, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 56ms, Maximum = 325ms, Average = 92ms

56!?!? Coool! Average 92? Thats at least 50% better than usual.

Sentech phoned me today and asked if I still had the problem, but I wasnt in Pta today. I hope they found something... Will see Monday.
 
Oh, and noswal, your speed then seems quite a bit better than on Menlo tower.

Interestingly, the service seems a bit better today, even at home. DNS speed according to tcpiq have come down from 1000ms+ to 111ms. I hope its not because half of the country is offline at the moment or something.

Ahhh, pleasant surprises. A moment to enjoy, even if it turns out to be temporary.
 
Hehe, unless, conspiracy theory, maybe they are giving ping requests priority to make me happy and go away? Hehehehe.
