Hi all, here is what my system has in atm

Core 2 quad,2.5ghz
4GB 1600mhz kingston memory
G41 MSI mboard
Radeon Hd 7850 gpu

..im aiming at an upgrade next month seeing my system is kinda ancient lol,my budget i'd say for now is R2500,seeing that i can use my ram and gpu and hd,my motherboard and cpu are the ones that need replacing 1st..

I feel like amd offers best bang for your buck,so im kinda leaning to amd's side on my budget..any ideas?

Thanks

With R2500 I'd go 2nd hand on Carbonite. You could perhaps get a 3570k and Mobo.

I'd rather wait, or spend R3700 on a Haswell CPU + motherboard.

If you really want to upgrade, get another 4GB of RAM and an aftermarket cooler if your motherboard is OK/good for overclocking.

why wait? whats coming soon ..Haswell from intel came out..so im assuming amd is releasing their next tech cpu's soon?

AMD FX-6300 @ R1686
ASUS M5A97 R2.0 @ R1050
Total: R2766

That's the most bang-for-buck combo you'll get that at least approaches your budget. On average the FX-6300 is at least as powerful as the Core i5-3330, some times exceeding it when it comes to multi-threaded apps and games. Intel isn't an option at this point unless you're willing to shove R3k into your build to afford it. An FX-4300 would also be acceptable here.

Also, give this a gander: Is This Even Fair? Budget Ivy Bridge Takes On Core 2 Duo And Quad; and this: AMD's Piledriver And K10 CPU Architectures Face Off

Core 2 Quads still have a lot of staying power these days. Are you upgrading because you feel like it, or has it become necessary because of reduced game performance?

Slight game performance reduction :/ ..nothing major, yes i will add and say the core 2 Quad does do a great job compared to what is out there still..But maybe i should wait till i have more $ and till AMD has released there new line up op CPU's ,then compare haswell with AMD?

Well, either way you'll be saving up for better hardware, so I'd wait until the end of the month. AMD will be announcing their future plans on the 25th, but none of that hardware will be here before February 2014 (we live at the bottom of Africa, who are we kidding?). If you can afford it now, Haswell is the way to go.

Think i'll save up for an i5 and a decent Mboard ..probably the best for me to go from a core 2 quad to haswell

Have you got a SSD?

If you don't then bugger upgrading your mobo & cpu. Get say a 250GB SSD for your system drive and game installs.
That right there should be a massive performance boost.

It seems to me like he is after a FPS boost and a SSD won't help in that regard at all.

A SSD does nothing for frame rates and in-game performance. A Core 2 Quad can be a big limiter in games that are CPU-dependant and a Core i5 quad-core would benefit DJ's minimum and average frame rates.
