Okay, I've seen a couple of posts where people refer to having "ditched the Dashboard", etc. But I haven't found a post that explains how to do it. I'm not having any particular issues with the Dash, but since it doesn;t accurately log my usage anyway (DUMeter rules), I can't see why I should have to load it up every time.

But when I just try to connect using the normal dial-up route, my Novatel card isn't initialised. There must be a way to get around this. At the moment I load the Dash, just to get the card going. And then I connect using Network Connections.

Please help!

First you need to dsable the pin code (this is optional. or you need to open the dash to enter it)

Then close the dash (If you are still using the dash)

Then you can connect with the normal network connection you created earlier.

Correct. With the pin disabled the card will connect to the network before it even finishes starting Windows. You can also manually configure the network connection as long as you intialise the modem and tell it too you 3G or GPRS. Strangely enough learned how to do this when having to set up the card on Linux. It become part of the Initialization string in the modem setup. Only real reason you need the dash is to load the drivers and view SMS. (Missed a few because I didn't bother to load it for about a week :))
