So I've decided to get my life in order and I need help.

I need to do matric but in such a way that I can do masters/honours at some time in the future. UJ/Wits does not accept technical matric students. So I need to do grade 11 and matric. Now the problem comes. I can't afford 20k (what Intec quoted) or 28k (what Damelin quoted) this year just for grade 11 alone.

Does someone know of a way that I can just apply for the exams alone? I can study by myself and can learn all the things I need to. I just need a way to write the exams.

Can't you register directly at the department of education for the NSC exams?

You can register at the department of edu, locally, study by yoursefl and go to designated centre to write exams. (I think it's late now for private registrations this year).

Registration closed for private (grade 12 at least), he can through an institution.

Have you tried home schooling centres? They might be able to help you with exam registration only.

You can also apply for aged based matric exemption if you are old enough. It depends on the degree you want to do but may be an option for you.

Thanks guys. Got some advice from a friend's mother as well. I just don't want to do something that won't allow me to get into uni, that's my main concern currently

Do some research on GED. That's what my son is going with. If you're on Facebook, search for ONLINE GED group. Very helpful people on there, a few of whom have used GED to get into university. Cost is approximately R2500 to enrol, with each test costing $60, of which you write four.
You could also pm Quentin Legend on mybb for further information. Very helpful member :)

What is your age? Do you have working experience etc?

I know UNISA gives you a few courses to complete before allowing you to study further if you don't have matric (or passed to go to uni). Especially since you already did your "technical matric" (?)

Unless you are dead-set to study at UJ

I'm 23 and have working experience. I've been trying to reach UNISA but they're not answering and their website isn't responding either.

UJ haven't quite been able to help yet, they gave me another number to call and that just rings. I'm looking at the GED thing and will ask Quentin Legend soon about it. I basically just don't want to end up in a spot where I can't study further

@Akasha, the fact that you're trying to contact UJ implies you're somewhere in JHB (or the greater Gauteng). Thus if you want to contact UNISA, your best bet is to visit one of their regional centres. The science campus in Florida or the main campus in Sunnyside (PTA) are your best bets - don't think about going to the one in JHB CBD, they're incompetent AF. UNISA haven't answered their phones or responded to any of my emails, ergo I had to go into the Florida centre to sort my registration out.

Thanks. I've confirmed that it is possible to get into UNISA with the GED matric and much difficulty so I'll be going that route. Thanks to everyone who responded
