It is always a good idea to state the MS KB # -- makes looking it up easier.

There is another better way to use TELNET

You can use Telnet from the command line and state a specific PORT NUMBER

You can then log in and view your mail on the server from the CLI

Look it up -- or do you want me to ????

I don't normally mess with telnet since the various linux distro's stopped including it. I have a windows partition on my machine but almost never use it. I used to use windows for turboCAD , but have since found a fair alternative for linux. That was the last reason i had for keeping a windows partition.

For most of the end users connecting through ISP's who block outbound on port 25, have a chat to your hosting provider as most of them are offering alternate smtp ports in order to send mail through their servers.

The alternate smtp port is usually configured on port 587. May be worth a bash to try changing your mail client to use 587 instead of 25 - you may very well just be with one of those hosting providers.
