I see they spammed me.

Basically they are offering a white label system so you can become a mini registrar (for .co.za) through their website... but at a cost. Okay, cool service, but a couple of things that worry me.

1) How is this company associated with Uniforum?
2) Did not giving early access to only a couple of companies to the EPP create an artificial unfair business advantage?
3) How were they able to retrieve my contact information on all my domains without Uniforum assisting them?

I am probably missing out on a lot of this story, but I really think this comes across as a little unfair (without knowing special information).

On what criteria was Diamatrix chosen as one of the lucky early testers?

Is the EPP open to everyone now? I would rather develop my own system than pay someone else to use theirs.
 
Can I apply to become an Accredited Registrar now?

A. The process of formally Accrediting Registrars has not yet commenced. We are currently in the process of orientating prospective Registrars on the legal, policy a technical aspects relating to the new co.za Registry System. Once this has been concluded, we will officially commence the Accreditation process and begin accepting Registrar Accreditation applications. Prospective Registrars are encouraged to review the draft Registrar Accreditation Agreement and the Published Policies with the view of providing the Registry with their comments and suggestions.

Hi, some further information about UniForum’s EPP solution:

We noticed that another ISP posted that they are currently in Beta with the UniForum EPP solution. DiaMatrix is actually the only company that has officially been approved by UniForum as a Registrar and we are already registering domains on the live whois system using the EPP solution

Over the past 18 months DiaMatrix has developed in conjunction with UniForum a new white labeled Multi Registrar / Reseller EPP Control Panel. Under normal development time an ISP can develop / integrate into co.za at best in about 2-3 months with approximately another 2 months in the “sandbox” before migrating to the live .co.za system.

How does one become the only approved Uniforum registrar? Who do you have to know to get that unfair business advantage?

Ok what does this mean that once Diamatrix and co.za's system is up we can only do domains through Diamatrix then ?

I cant understand why they were chosen :confused::confused:
 
I tend to agree.

Why only the one company. Perhaps there could be more, but if not, I think a proper background investigation into all Uniforum and Diamatrix directors, their finances and family members may bring up something.

No, I think eventually the market will be open for everyone who meets their requirements, but right now, according to them, only they can at the moment.

Yeah, were are the Web Africa`s and large known ISPs?

I would like to respond to your post as follows:

1) DiaMatrix / www.domains.co.za is in no way associated with UniForum, other than being an approved registrar.

2) Over 3 years ago ZADNA invited all ISPA members in SA to a meeting to discuss the way forward of all .za TLD’s. This was held at the MTN offices near 14th Ave in JHB. ISPA members from around the country participated in the discussions. We made a business decision to start a development thereafter and build a Multi Registrar, White Labelled solution. UniForum knew that we were building something but did not know what. Throughout the last 3 years there were various meetings held for ISPA members by both ZADNA & UniForum whereby both ZADNA & UniForum were fully transparent to all parties about what they were doing. UniForum has also had a section on their website with information relating to the EPP system. DiaMatrix / www.domains.co.za, were asked to do the 1st official live public domain registration at Iweek in September last year as we had already completed majority of our solution & UniForum were doing a presentation of the last 15 years of .co.za, this presentation was also about the way forward.

3) “How were we able to retrieve your information” To correct you, UniForum did not and does not share any information with anybody including ourselves. We have approached various ISP’s / companies including yourself whom we believe to be “serious” players in the industry. I am sure you know just by being in the industry who the bigger ISP’s are.

As to your point about “little unfair (without knowing special information)”, we don’t have any special information nor did we ever have any, we worked with UniForum like many others were working with then and are still working with them, the fact that we have been developing something for quite a while has allowed us to get to market first.

DiaMatrix / www.domains.co.za was never chosen to be one of the lucky testers, in fact there were I believe 4 companies developing / testing. We were never told who the others were.

yes it is, for more information do what we did and contact UniForum, I'm sure the guys there will be only too happy to help out

You actually don’t have to know anybody, you just have to go to the UniForum website like we did, take the initiative 3 years in advance and get to market early. At the date of the published article (28/11/2011) we were the only approved registrar.
As of today 03/02/2012 there are a number of approved registrars on the live Uniforum EPP system, with 9 of those approved registrars utlizing our system.

With regard to your PM to rpm. We have sent numerous articles, notifications and publications to Rudolph over the last couple of months regarding EPP and the changes in the co.za domain industry, but it would seem they have been ignored or fallen on deaf ears...

We were informed that there were other ISP's in the sandbox test enviroment, but were not informed as to who they were.
Only Recently has another ISP posted that they are currently in Beta with the Uniforum EPP solution.

Thanks for clearing this up. I think you service is very cool, but I just wanted clarification on what had happened. For those of us who did not get all the news, I am sure you can see confusing it might be.

No. Most ISPs selling domains right now are resellers of the legacy registrar. Once an ISP is accredited they are given direct access to the co.za registry and eventually the legacy registrar will stop operating.

With the number of emails sent out, this still doesn't tell us how you got everyone's email addresses. You can't tell us that you scoured the net....
