Id like some advice from you guys are you all seem rather clued up. I'm currently on Afrihost and I'm not willing to see out there "upgrades".

I currently have a business 4meg uncapped account. I do about 300gigs+- a month. Im willing to spend about R1500 a month.

Any recommendations?

Cheers

Please let us know when you have made a swich , with who and how it is. I have also had it with Afrihost.... International unusable at the moment, and this has been going on for almost a month now!!!!!!!!!!!

By the way The absence of Afriman in all the anti afrihost posts speaks volumes!!!!

would rather recommend getting Vox bolt-on for the 300GB of linux files, and then a good quality capped account for the other R1000(or up to the amount of GB's that your normal internet usage/streaming will need - start small and grow it as needed)

unfortunately not sure which capped account is going to be the best - i am currently on axxess(10GB + 4Mb line for R318), but mostly use VOX after 6pm.
not at home during the day, and the 12 hours linux is time is more than enough to catch up on latest distro's.

How do you switch between the accounts everyday? Do you have to reconfigure your router each time?

Definitely will do

guess it depends on the system setup, but no - not switching the router.

router is configured for vox. Download pc is configured to pause downloads during the day (and after power-on - thank you load shedding)

gaming pc i will mostly control, thus i have PPOE dialup sessions created , allowing me to select either vox or capped accounts.

if a single pc is used, you can use windows scheduler to switch disconnect/connect.

if multiple devices is used on the network during the day (eg wife/kids/ tablets/gaming), then a firewall pc will probably be needed(pfsense i would imagine - have not seen the exact setup of this, but shouldn't be too difficult.

I will be testing WebAfrica tomorrow, and will report back. If it works then Afrijoke's "service" will be history for me

I opened a new account with Web Africa this evening as I'm totally fed up with Afrihost's slow speeds. Once I setup the router with the new Web Africa detail the difference in speed was amazing. Previously a speed test to a server in LA came out at 59.8kbps on my 4Mbps line! With Web Africa I achived a speed of 307kbps to the same server half an hour later!

Goes to show that the problem must lie with Afrihost.

Ye, i think Afrihost is on a downward spiral.... Think it's time to say bye bye.

I joined afrihost cause mweb was intoducing those softcaps. But with Afrihost it's not softcapped but with the constant slow speeds i might aswell be "throttled".

Youtube and streaming services has really been a shlepp since i joined them 7-8months ago and makes the experience very frustrating. They say they fix it.. and then it lasts a week or two weeks and everything is slow again.

Ok so finally made the change over to Webafrica tonight. Guess what popcorn works now, obviously blocked by afrihost
