So I have totally given up on TelkomZA.

He did try and help me in the beginning but like it is with telkom they just lose interest.

My problem originally started when an excavator dug up my areas telephone lines. After it was fixed I started to notice that my attenuation ratio started deteriorating.

When I first got ADSL my attenuation was 36, now it is 50 at times and 60+ when it rains. TelkomZA himself even said that it is high for my line distance. This caused my connection to get frequent "spikes" or "shutters" when playing online games or anything that needs a constant internet connection.

So my issue was given to a technician a few times. First they just said your service was restored, which it wasn't as I was still receiving those spikes. The second technician called to arrange a time when he will come to check . . .he never showed up.

The recent "fix" that they tried was to downgrade my line to 2mbs which raised my SNR value. This DID fix the spiking or stutter issue, but I have always had 4mbs and my line will even be able to support 10mbs because of my close distance to the exchange.

I will NOT accept 2mbs!!

So the issue is that Telkom refuses to accept that its the underground cable giving problems and nobody seems even keen to try and help with this issue! I feel it is totally unacceptable for me to be happy with 2mbs when I am paying for 4mbs just because they don't want to fix my line!!!:mad::mad:

TelkomZA just does not seem to care anymore.

Line stats
SNR Up : 16.7
SNR Down : 15.2
Line Attenuation Up : 24.5
Line Attenuation Down : 49.0

Might have posted it in wrong sub forum, please move to ADSL Discussions

I have the exact same problem as you.

In the beginning, TelkomZA was replying to my pm's and he seemed interested in helping me. They downgraded me to 2mbps from 4 because they said my SNR was too low but the actual problem was that my exchange is very congested. TelkomZA and all the other technicians said that they detected no exchange congestion but they were looking at the wrong times. I ran tests using ping plotter for a week showing that my latency shoots up during certain times of the day depending on the day of the week. I sent me tests to TelkomZA but it seems as though I am on his ignore list :(

One sure way to get your copper fixed, (if you are prepared to spend some money) is to apply for an ISDN line and keep complaining until it is perfect. Once it is sorted you can cancel and revert to normal line for ADSL.

Sorry to hear about your troubles.
Normally Telkom will not do anything unless your telephone service is actualy not working at all.

If that happens Telkom must come and fix it.

However if the line has a problem (physical dammage) somewhere which only makes you lagg (low SNR) they will not actually do anything about this.

Your only hope in this case would be if the trench diggers dammage your line so that you cannot send /receive calls.

Other than that you are kinda screwed.

PS. Atleast you pay less. Maybe get a business account.

What is an ISDN line and how much does it cost?

Have known for a long time not to count on or ask for help from any official or non-official Telkom reps on here. They selectively help who they feel like helping as if they doing you a massive favour.
