Over one month ago, I ordered a Google Nexus 7 16GB from Aureus Tech. At R3500 it seemed pretty reasonable.

One month later, they finally say it's ready to be delivered (i.e. it is still in America). Their advertised delivery time was 8-9 days.

In addition to that, with all their claims of "free" delivery, I now have to pay R483.33 import duties.

So its costing R4000 for 5 week delivery - for a product costing R2200 in dollar terms.

Please order your tablet from somewhere else.

They haven't answered the phone once (I've called about 30-40 times)
They haven't answered a single email.

It's easily the #%#ttest service I've ever received. They make Telkom look like a pleasant company.

I'll let you know if my tablet ever arrives.

Update: Aureus have admitted the mistake, and admitted that they were meant to pay the import duties. However they've ignored my emails for two days now asking for them to refund me for the import duties I've paid. Tablet still stuck in customs.

To be fair, the Nexus 7 is extremely popular, and most stores in the USA and UK are sold out.
Also, the import duties can hardly be considered part of the delivery fee, but I do agree they should have been more upfront that it will be charged in addition to the R3500.

My friend ordered a 16GB model from this guy. He ordered on last Thursday and it was delivered this past Monday. Pretty sweet service.

R3400 and he includes import duties in that. Aureus Tech R3500 without import duties. Go figure.

I made the biggest mistake by ordering from this guy (www.aureustech.co.za):(

Now I lost all my money and he doesn't answer any calls nor does he respond to emails.

Even his website is suddenly down.

Does anybody have any personal contact details for the owner, Dreyer Smith, other than the details provided on the website?

Get your bank to reverse charges.

Kalahari.com has some in stock with next day delivery @ R3500.

IceQB, How do you I get my bank to reverse charges?

If you did an EFT, then you can contact the bank but it is going to be incredibly difficult. Start by opening a case of theft at the local police station.

If you did a Credit Card transaction, file a dispute. Tell them the situation, show them the emails you sent. If the goods are being delivered it is breach of contract so you can at least attempt getting your money back.

What Gnome just said.
I'm sure you could get it reversed if you provide them with all the proof.

Buy from ZakDoc. An awesome awesome seller and great guy to deal with, doubt you will find better prices.

You can always buy directly from Amazon.com also and save about R200. Some of the Amazon retailers ship internationally. I just did a check now, but you need to buy about 8 of them for the price to come down to R2800.

And now I noticed the facebook page is down and the website is gone.
