I exist only in my own mind ...
Unless you have your account details to hand.

It seems that some help desk persons are advocating that users reset their modem when they encounter access problems, but resetting your router can result in it losing your ISP log in details and recovering them from your ISP can be a tedious process.

So before resetting your router, log in to it and make a note of the ISP user account. If you don't know how to do this and some help desk person says reset, ask them how you can note the account name before resetting.

My username and passwords are all printed on an a4 page stored in a clearly marked folder sitting on my study desk. Availability is never a problem :D

I agree. But unfortunately the people who actually need this advice won't be reading this. Won't know it's importance and will probably forget the advice. :(

I've had 3 cases of this this week, hence the post.

I know a number of people who have no idea what their ADSL logins are, so if someone tells them to reset the router they will be stuffed.

And getting stuff like that out of Telkom is like pulling teeth.

So, yes, I agree with this warning.

Not to forget Telkom's 10^6 ids which you need to log into their different accounts, which people you try to help want to use...
