Don't recommend AMD graphics for novice and first time builders

AMD have always and still do have stupid issues with their drivers. Recently moved from Nvidia to AMD on an intel system. First, the driver wouldn't install because of Visual C++ 2017 distributable and once installed the Adrenalin 2020 software caused issues and had to manually only install the driver.

This is pretty stupid things the average user wouldn't have to deal with going with Nvidia, but I got bang for my buck running Asus ROG Strix RX5600XT now.

Novice and first-time builders don't need driver issues or the drama. If I wasn't technically inclined I would have thought it was broken or I had broken it. While if the novice user had gone with Nvidia the chances are that it would have just worked as expected.

I had to do a lot of technical fiddling and like I said even had to manually install the driver from the update driver function on the device manager. Not manual as in run the installer, no. The installer breaks the driver when installing Adrenalin 2020.

I have always had some simple technical issue with AMD graphics. However, they still served me well when you get pass the hurdles.

If you want a crash course on repairing computers then buy AMD graphics with your first build. :ROFL:

I hear you. But then I've installed and used AMD GPUs without any issues, just pop in the driver, pop on the game and pop some skulls.

Also, anyone looking to build a PC should also have the know how of how to Google things, and if you can Google things, you can solve the issues that crop up - barring hardware failure of course.

Maybe buy yourself an APU next time ;)

Maybe you're right but Google will help some sobs just so far. No to pre-build unless I have dollars, but APUs look promising, love the idea. Will see in the future.

Maybe I was just in the lucky generation with Nvidia but so too only on the bad generations when I opted AMD.

I don't regret going AMD this time. Getting acceptable frame rates on ultra on most of the game I play.
 
Haven't used an AMD card in a while but also never had any issues with drivers and actually found their drivers worked a lot better with my multi-monitor setup (I still have an annoying issue with 1080Ti where switching to full screen modes on my main display moves all the windows around on my secondary displays, which worked fine with my AMD cards).

I have seen people reporting issue on Reddit, etc. about driver issues but last I heard they were in pretty good shape now. Maybe there is some specific combination of hardware/software causing problems for you, and you can get it resolved.

If these are happening recently, it is probably because of support and bug fixes required for the new cards, and game optimizations.

I had AMD graphics cards of various kinds for something close on a decade, with no issues. You must just suck at installing drivers.

I had a 5700, then a 7790, then an RX480, and none of those gave me driver issues.
