DOS6.22 problem

Have you try DR-DOS, by default, it's set to run in high memory so that more conventional memory is available for your applications. MS-Dos applications should be compatible, last used DR-Dos 6, see there's a 7 and still supported.

not sure if Dr Dos will be compatible with the manufactures priority software?

thing is we have 2 of these machines. I looked at the one that is still working - cnc2. it only has 11 dos files in the dos dir.

I looked at it's autoexec.bat file - copied that but changed the path from cnc2 > cnc1.

I looked at the config.sys file - copied that over to cnc1

this is all that's in the config file at present.

DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE
DOS=HIGH,UMB
FILES=30
BUFFERS=30
DEVICEHIGH=C:\NET\IFSHLP.SYS
LASTDRIVE=Z


still do not have enough memory to run the net.exe file so that I can change the network path from cnc2 > cnc1?

this is the latest mem check

Check the CMOS settings for things like Cache (or shadow) System ROM and Video ROM and turn them off.

and editing config.sys+autoexec.bat for max memory, then creating the boot image, copying to the server, rebooting the workstation, running MEM/c etc until you get a working install with maximal amount of RAM...

...and, of course, finding a working boot ROM for the NE2000 NIC's...

FWIW prior to Novell 3.12 you did not need a lastdrive=z statement in config.sys, only with Novell 4 (and newer) did you need a lastdrive=z (and the endless hassles of getting enough free RAM for your application...)

Novell was the company, Netware was the product :)

Novell killed Netware with all the complexite added in 4 ...
 
no upper memmory, have you tried changing : DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE
to : DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS
What outcome?

'strue... Netware 3.12 was the bomb! Simple, did what you wanted, and that was it.

No fancy-smancy GUI like Server2008... just a basic CLI interface.

Loved the snake screensaver, especially when the server was under load.

FWIW I did a comparative test between 2.2 and 3.12 - installed 2.2 on a Pentium PC.

Copied some huge files over, found that its disk writes was slow, and it slowed the copy process down as it chugged through the buffers.

Installed 3.12 - dramatic boost in performance when installed on the same hardware.

I remeber that! Also remember using token ring back in the day and Netware and so on. Ah the good old days..
Formatted and loaded XP on my netbook for sound and network for games and so on, was just bored the other day and found my old archive of stuff and gave it a try.
Want to download a Linux distro with emulators to play those games on the netbook, it's perfect for it.

Taking about screensavers, I ran 'AfterDark' and my favorite (I still have it and works on XP - 32bit) is Johny Castaway {Google for it if you want it).

PS - it also works on win7 32-bit. Not sure about 8, 8.1 and 10 though... should work with the 32-bit versions though.
