Playing with mobile data it is shocking at how much one dota 2 game takes. A normal 40-60 min game can easily take up 100mb and that is when you set your connection setting to low on dota 2.

What I don't understand why so much data? WOW,HON,Diablo 3, starcraft 2,COD and even lol does not nearly take as much data....

Would be nice if anybody can explain why

Did you have voice?

Don't forget the in game store reloads every time you enter the game.

I have no idea why it's so much, but they have improved on it over time.

I reckon it's just not really a priority for them. 100MB/h is little enough to work on low line speeds and data cost is not an issue in their primary markets.

its really raping :(

Check out the replay system, if you load a previous replay, you will notice with the "Player Perspective" that the game even records mouse movements.

I'm sure thats not the only reason, but when you check how the toons move around (they have to turn around physically) you get the feeling the game hides a lot of obvious data from perception.

Iesh maybe its that cost of data that's to blame more then how much dota 2 usages :(

It is really funny that you use that much data. When we play dota, we are 2 guys running of one connection and we use around 110mb per hour, and that includes the loading of the shop and the blog on the start-up of the dota. You can block your dota shop to load at start-up, and you will save around 10-15mb. But using 100mb/h is really to heavy. What I well have to add is that we are also using a custom autoexec file that loads when dota starts to reduce the amount of data sent per second as well as putting the network on low in the settings once the game starts.

sent you pm

Go to Options > Gameplay > Network settings > Turn network quality off.

If you're playing locally, you will not notice any difference and the bandwidth is reduced to about 30mb per game.

As said here.

Everything that happens in a game is recorded.

Also they wont really focus on lowering it because countries that this game was dev'd for dont have the same bandwidth restrictions like we do.
