Have you purchased it if not will you be getting it ? Seems like a real good package this year, immortal items look amazing, loving the shovel and ability to high five plus I just cant get enough of that new intro screen. I buy it every year, quite like that we have a level 100 option this time around as it gives you a bit of a bigger boost this time around. My goal is to get the Axe stuff at level 425.

The bare knuckles set does look kinda cool, still waiting on the es arcana and tiny set
 
I bought it but holy hell is it a money grab, there is no way someone can get the highest level of the BP even for playing non stop until the BP ends.

I think I got to level 250'ish last year and only bought levels once when it was on special.

So realistically doubt whether I'd get to level 425 without buying levels. I calculated that it would cost around R2,500 if you only bought levels and didn't grind any levels. I'm not willing to spend that.

At this stage I am wondering whether I should just bite the bullet and buy a few levels each month in order to spread the expense and make it less noticeable or whether I should just forget about trying to get to level 425.

This is not unique to this year's Battle Pass. The high tier rewards are always behind a paywall. Seeing as it's a free to play game and that the rewards are cosmetic (mostly), it isn't that big of a deal.

For example, this was locked behind level 615 last year, which is even higher than the Axe set this year, though you had more ways to grind levels in the past as well (recycling immortals and some achievements that are now missing).

The Axe set will require you to spend money, no doubt about it. Level 425 is too high to grind. I reached 615 last year with paying, so I have no worries that I can get the Axe stuff this year as well. You can check your past levels on your profile.

Pro-Tip: If you save your immortal treasures through the year, you can sell them when they become marketable. This is what I did last year, where I got over R1000 back from selling the treasures from 2017. This means you can make some of the money back, although you will have to spend it in Steam. I will be doing the same this year when the 2018 treasures become marketable.

With regards to calculating how much it will cost, you can already do this in game. Just select "Buy Levels" or whatever it's called from inside the Battle Pass. This will then give you the option to select how many level packs you want to buy, show you what your final level will be and what it will cost.
 
I get it every year just to watch TI ingame, haven't played Dota in a while
 
I don't think that's required anymore. Tournaments don't have in-game tickets that you need to purchase. Although I might be wrong since I prefer watching over the stream most of the time.

It used to be that you needed the battle pass to watch, but if that's not needed then I wont get it as I don't play anymore.

I watch all the presentation on twitch, and then they go to the pick lobby I switch to the game to watch in full quality and then I can control what I see if I want to
 
So last night I was looking at the " buy levels " button, for a R1000 you can buy 165 levels. Is it really wort it or would I be better off just buying two arcana sets for that money and still have R100 left to spend on other cosmetics ?
 
I have a group of friends who are waiting for the end month to drop R2000+ on the battle pass, the same bunch that got last years aegis shield 1000+ levels on the battle pass.

They will prob drop R2000 a month until TI is over.

Personally I buy the entry level one and probably get it to level 10, I have no interest in having the best looking (insert name here) set ...

"Is it worth it?" is entirely dependent on you and how much spare cash you have to fork over. It's worth it for me but I want to support the game, I like the cosmetics and I have enough disposable income that buying levels doesn't set me back.

So even if you are a millionaire but you don't care about cosmetics nor supporting the game, then it's not worth it. Vice versa, if you have R50 in your bank account at the end of the month before payday then it's also not worth it to buy the Battle Pass, regardless of whether you want cosmetics or if you want to support the game.

So is it worth it for you to buy the Battle Pass? As the Shopkeeper says at the end of the first Dota 2 trailer, "That is for you to decide."

Well said, I don't mind dropping 2k each month on bp levels for the cosmetics as well as supporting the game because I absolutely love dota but is it really worth it ? Lets say the game dies out in the next 6 months, ( which would be incredibly sad) wouldn't you feel like a complete tool for spending 6k on something that now has no value ? I just think the money could be spent better, promoting an area of my life that actually has real value but I really want to spend that money at the same time, very very badly. It might sound silly to a lot of people but I'm really between rock and a hard place.
 
I think I'll sell some of my unopened Treasures from previous Battle Passes and use those to buy levels in this Battle Pass, but really want to game it so I get to exactly level 425 - no need to get 1 level more than that :) (for me)
 
That's what I do every year and it does help. Just remember that you will have to wait until after TI (normally September) before you can sell the treasures, meaning you will have to purchase the levels before you can sell. Bit of a gamble, but worked fine for me last year.

Also remember that the money is locked to Steam.
