It seems as if Valve isn’t interested in Dota 2, on its own. The company has filed for a trademark for Dota 3, as well. On the form for the trademark, Valve listed it as a video game, and software — which it is. The trademark was filed on 02 September, 2010, the same day that Valve filed for the Dota 2 trademark.

Therefore, one can only speculate that when IceFrog teamed up with Valve, the deal went a little further than just Dota 2. Which is good. Not to mention, this could be an influencing factor as to why IceFrog actually joined Valve in the first place.

Originally, Heroes of Newerth contacted IceFrog for help, where he did help. But there was a limited future, and it’s possible that IceFrog saw this. So, he helped a bit and that was that. However, when the big chiefs over at Valve phoned, he was a little more excited.

Hence, Dota 2.

There’s no registered Dota 4 trademark, so we know we have at least two new games to look forward to.
