I take it that i cannot go and signup for a dotco account just for november for a 30gig for R580????

It certainly doesn't seem like I can!

nope but its a start

i dont see any other isp taking on telkom?

big up to johan (dotco) for taking the fight to the evil that ruins our porn downloads

I'm actually not sure what the point of this all is? Telkom can't charge Dotco the new prices, and Dotco can't resell at the old prices so... *shrug*

I'm wondering about the same thing. My argument is, if we can get a whole lot of people to sign up with them even if its just for the month, they can use the customer database in court to prove that this is what the public wants and needs, and the court can see how big the demand is...

dotco was the only ISP who could fight telkom in the courts afaik - their contract was significantly different to those held by the other isps. Complaints by WA (and others?) have been laid at ICASA but dont hold your breath for action on that front cos it could take a while.

but should dotco lose it could conceivably bankrupt them.

they wont loose

they started the 30 gig thing and they will keep it going

i have faith telkom must die

The thing is bwana, what if they don't loose!!!!

And if we all had toi give them that support, it might just help win the thing!!

If Telkom wins they will retrospectively charge dotco the new prices. Id dotco does not take this into account by billing the new prices in november they can go belly up.

if they are clever they will charge the new prices promising to credit accounts should they win.

This should answer your question:
Dear "All You Can Eat" client,

Yesterday DOTCO won a small victory against Telkom's November price increase, when Judge Hlophe in the Cape High Court granted a temporary order preventing Telkom from charging DOTCO according to the new usage based billing system. This is until our case can be heard on 5 December 2005.

In the event that we don't receive a favourable ruling, Telkom could implement its new prices to us retrospectively. Unfortunately this means that we will have to keep charging our new prices until we can be sure that Telkom's usage based price changes will not affect us.

Should we win our case, we plan to revert back to our old pricing for our existing subscribers and credit customers that upgraded to the new 20 and 30GB priced accounts.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and assure you that we will continue our quest to provide affordable ADSL.

Believe me I hope they dont but lets face it even the strongest case has been know to go the other way.

From the looks of it they're planning on crediting the difference to new subscribers should they win the case which is pretty decent of them.

The only two that know the case are DOTCO & Telkom. This is not about right or wrong in the greater sense, rather whose interpretation of the agreement between them is judged valid.
