I went to KFC on the 21st of May, made a purchase and the machine didn't work so I didn't get a receipt, didn't sign anything also I received no notification. They gave me another machine and the transaction went through fine. I only got both notifications on the 24th and it shows on my statement as the 24th.

So I phoned Woolworths Financials Services, explained this to them. They said I should go speak to KFC, I made the trip there, KFC said all the logs from their debit machines for the week are sent to their head office and they took my number and said they'd get back to me. I didn't worry since its a CC and I thought you can easily reverse something like this, since I had done a similar thing with Capitec before.

Fast forward, KFC never got back to me. I phoned WFS again, explained the situation and they're saying there is nothing they can do from their side and I should go speak to KFC again, this is BS right?

/No KFC jokes :p

Once you get your Credit Card statement which confirms two transactions, you can instruct your credit card provider to reverse the one.

Sometimes the "batch system" will post 2 transactions to your card. When the one is approved and goes through, the other one is deleted / removed. Until that time though it looks like you had a double swipe. Happens especially on "offline" terminals.

Only worry when the statement comes or if the double isn't cleared in a week or two

The statement did come, both transactions are showing.

You need to ask WFS for the dispute form. Fill it out, attach statement, send it off. Has so be submitted within 30 days of the disputed transaction, takes up to 45 days. Usually you will be charged a nominal fee of like R150 if you lose the dispute.

I'm not sure about a credit card but I have had this happen twice to me on my debit card. First time was at a garage after filling petrol second time was buying paint.

Went to the bank and they said that this is quite common and that the system will detect the second transaction as invlaid after two/three days, the charge was reversed both times. The second time I didn't even query it, waited a few days and money was returned.

It was a standard bank cheque account

Had this happen on my Capitec account and they reversed it in one day.
