I wanted to download BB Desktop Manager and found a site that had a very large "DOWNLOAD" icon and another 2 for phone number and carrier.
As I clicked on the download icon, BLANK will deduct R5.00 PD in tiny letters appeared in the corner. I immediately clicked out. Stooopid me. I should have known better after being caught twice before.

Now the Double Opt In regulation comes to play.

Next day I get the required SMS that states;

ur code is 3289
Verify it on the web confirmation page. You'l be subscribed to ZAP from Buongiorno @ R6/day.
unsubscribe *120*5133#

Now I don't know where this website is so I unsubscribe to the number given via my cell.
This appears;

1 - Join
unsubscribe from
2 - 35050 Gold
3 - Exit

Now this is confusing to me so I enter 1 and it goes through.

Five days later R30 is missing.

What do I get for this R6 pd? What number should I have selected?
Do I really have to port to VC to get rid of this now?

Just to add. These vultures cheat you into subscribing as I've shown. Either MTN or ICASA has implemented the Double Opt In. So now they do this but confuse you with the cryptic SMS.

Now to confuse you even further, BLANK gives 2 other WASP vulture names. So who to blame???

No website to go get your monies worth of whatever. This is how they make money and MTN allows it as they score as well.
BLANK knows that "subscribers" will eventually let their SIM run dry or port but they leach R6 here and R30 there and this keeps their tummies full.

Maybe you should have chosen option 2. It's the one I would have picked if I
were given those options.

I don't know but I hope it is worth it. For around R6 per day for a month you could get:
DSTV Select or
Two bouquets from TopTV or
10GB + 10GB from iBurst or
5GB + 15GB from Cell-C or
10GB from 8ta
What number should I have selected?
I wouldn't have responded to the initial SMS. I presume you need to send the USSD code and choose option 1 to actually subscribe.
Do I really have to port to VC to get rid of this now?
I don't think porting will help.
What would you choose guys?
I attached a poll to this thread.

That POLL is a bit wrong. The "Join and Unsub from" is not separate. I falls under "1".

"Un-subscribe from" goes with the Gold thing it should not be a separate poll option. Very clever there, in your haste to get out you end up getting in. I think this might be how Opera telecom got me, except they didn't give me the double opt in. Why does the site send your cell number when you're using something like a modem?

I realized that, and hoped everyone would too, but it was the only way to get the poll to look just like the USSD choices Marco was presented with.

While on the issue, how do you prohibit your device sending your number to these leeches when you're just trying to "get your internet on in the middle of the night"?

You correct and win this competition. Now just post your cell number and I will send you your sur prize.

As you say R13. In my haste I saw the "Join and Unsubscribe" as falling under "1". Clever trick.

Geez. The vultures must have sat for days to think up this and now the congratulating each other for a job well done.

Well, after all that, I managed to unsubscribe and got an SMS back stating that I have been Unsubscribed.

The only reason they sent me the SMS to unsubscribe was that I never topped up my account for 2 weeks and kept it at zero.

Topped up with R30 and lo and behold. All gone with me not even using the phone for 2 weeks.

Is there a number I can phone to find out where my money has disappeared to?
