Downgrade 512 to 192

Has anyone downgraded from ADSL 512 to ADSL 192 ?

We use our ADSL mainly for e-mail, browsing and VNC ( ie. no gaming ) and are considering a downgrade to a cheaper service.

I would appreciate any and all comments about the pro's and con's of this.

telkom charges you a fee for downgrading, but not for upgrading.

that is why we chose 192 package. if we need more, we can always upgrade!

We ordered when ADSL first became available so the 512 package was the only one available at the time.

The 512 is great and we are well used to it, but it is expensive and I can think of better ways to spend the extra R 270 pm.

We are prepared to accept the slower speed ( 192 ) for the cheaper rate, but am concerned that there may be other problems with the 192 service that we are not aware of.

AFAIK there are no differences between the two other than the speed.

DaveO. I don't know anything about the downgrading, but have ADSL192. No problems. Get an Avg. of 19KB/s downloads

Doit - the upgrade is free, and if you are forced to upgrade, you can upgrade to 384 and try that one, which should solve any problems occuring on 192.

crikey, i read the thread topic and almost cried. is it possible to get a worse service than we already have. was i just being naive or did i think telkom might actually try to deliver broadband instead of an ever more dilute and wishy washy excuse for affordable connectivity?
