Has anyone recently downgraded from a 4Mb line to a 384k one?

Did you pay a downgrade fee and how much was it?

I have emailed Telkom (haha) but am never home in office hours to call them and find out...

Thanks

It's cheaper to just cancel the line completely and then re-apply for a Package #2.

To verify me:
1. Goto : http://www.telkom.co.za/common/pricelist/pricelist_index.html
2. Download the pricing pdf (The green Download on the top paragraph)
3. In Adobe acrobat reader, press CRTL + S to search and type in Downgrade.

:D

As much as that?!

Have you done it recently? Surely if you cancel and reapply that will mean there is a time when you are waiting for the new application during which time you would have no ADSL at all?

Might be worth the "R365" (thumbsuck amount to have to pay) to avoid the wait to get reconnected to your exchange...

i asked one of my friends on a nother forum site that works for telkom sales and he told me that there is no fee for downgrade if this is yor first time doing it.

last week they said no fee to upgrade or downgrade just the monthly fee change

When I upgraded from 384 to 4MN in January, I specifcally asked about up- and downgrade costs, and was told it is FREE.

Cool. Seems there are more votes for free then...

Guess I shall have to actually call them to verify...

Telkom Tariff list 1 August 2008 Effective date 2008/08/01 VAT=14% Last updated 2008/12/04

Hmm, I guess that still applies then. :( The fee will be made up in savings over the first two months, but it still sucks.

to corroborate Simp, I was also told that there is no charge for upgrades and downgrades. When I queried the price list on the web, I was told in no uncertain terms that it is FREE.

I just got off the phone with 10219. Spoke to two different people who confirmed there is NO CHARGE to downgrade or upgrade an existing ADSL line. There is a charge to make an ADSL line back into just a phone line.

:)

The downgrade fees is always free. Any phone company is not charging for it. You may downgrade it entirely.

And BAM, we have already been downgraded! Wow, that was quick.

Noticeably slower, but not too bad...
