Hi Guys,

Firstly, I use UniNet so apologies if this is on the wrong board!

Has anybody had problems recently downloading from Rapidshare, among others, recently? Mine started about 3 weeks ago as follows: The download would start fine, get to a few megs, and then start slowing down and eventually stop. Sometimes it wouldn't even get as far as a few megs.

This past weekend it was as if it went back to normal for the first time since it started, but then Monday i resumed swearing at my computer.
Browsing to Rapidshare (and anywhere else) seems fine, but its as soon as the download starts that things fall apart.

I've been on the phone with their helpdesk 3 times, and I'm still waiting for someone to get back to me.

Before I tell them where they can stick their highsite, is their anyone who has had similar experiences recently? Like I said, mine started around the week of the 15th June.

I'm using their uncapped 64k account - slow, I know, but i enqueue downloads and it runs while i'm at work so it suits my needs.

thanks for any help you can provide!

duh, forgot to mention that! I'm using the free download.

Ive found that the same happens to me when using the free download together with Flashget. Support for download accelerators is a premium only privelage. Adjusting the number of connections down from 5 to 1 by default for Rapidshare Free Downloads seemed to fix it.

@labratza: i use it at home only

@riddler: i've never used flashget or any other accelerators. i normally just run one download at a time primarily through Opera 9.64 or alternatively IE 6/7/8. it doesn't seem to be vary with software - tested it on various boxes running vista32, 64 and XP MCE with the same results.

How big are the files normally? I know there was some kind of other thing regarding Mb/hr downloadable on Free. Not sure what it was but for example after downloading a 100Mb file u had to wait an hour before u can do another. Other than that im also stumped soz man.

ok well where do you get a 64k uncapped line and how much are you paying for it and a link to a site where to get it. that would be great thanks

riddler - yeah with Radpidshare (free) you have to wait a while after your download is completed before you can start again - (i think) the time you wait is dependant on the size of the file you completed downloading, which is generally 100meg chunks but sometimes bigger.

labratza - www.uninet.co.za - last time i checked my bill was R299. as far as i know they have capped unshaped solutions as well.

if the problem is only with rapidshare i'd try testing with a premium account to see if its any better

on a side note i found it impossible to start free downloads on rapidshare using adsl cause of the varying ip addresses- "limit reached" all the time

wow ok dont see that pricing with them. wish I could get a 64KB uncapped line for that price. would be good for downloads cos I would even pay R600 for a 128KB uncapped line. as long as I can use torrents and other downloading sources with them

To my best knowledge Openweb is bringing out a 384kb/s Uncapped for somthing like R399 this month

yep they come out to you to do an evaluation. used to be free of charge, i'm sure it still is.
for the most part i was quite happy with them, but more recently with my current issue, their service has left me disappointed.

i used to use uninet...
then i left for the exact same reason you are having now...
rapidshare, easynews, downloads just dropped...
thought they would have sorted that problem by now...
