Hi there,

There's something I do not understand about download speeds.

I'm on Telkom Mobile, pre-paid 60Gb data, using a Vodafone K4201-Z HSPA USB modem.
When I do speed tests with Ookla or MyBB, my avg DL=6 Mb/s and upload 2.5 Mb/s These speeds are fairly constant throughout the day.

Now, when I download large files with a download accelerator (e.g. Folx or iGetter on Mac, or Download Accelerator Plus on PC), the max DL speed I get is always ± 950 KB/s. Never more.

Can anyone please explain this to me?

Thanks!

take 6 Mb/s (mega bits per second) and divide by 8 to get 0.75 MB/s (mega bytes per second) because 8 bits is equal to 1 byte

now multiply by 1000 to get 750 KB/s (kilo bytes per second)

so, you are getting 950 KB/s with an accelerator, which is more than 6 Mb/s (750 KB/s)...rejoice!

It's dependant on many factors, including WHERE you download from. Ookla obviously has the speed to backup the massive amounts of speed tests they do constantly. and ISP's sometimes unshape that to show you the best performance

However, it might be that the server you are downloading from only can send to you at 950kb/s

950kb/s is actually almost 10Mbps
