What is the max download speeds i should be getting with a 384K ADSL line?

I have had the line for 24 days now and i never get above 38K this is about the average i get when maxing the line out.

My exchange is about a kilometer away from me maybe a little more not sure.

I am using a dlink 504T router and it's says my connection is a 512K how can this be?

You can go upto 50Kb's with a 384 line, when you d'loading from super fast servers. but i get constant 40's most of the time. So 38 is about right.

38k-40k/s is the speed of 384k line, when its running right :/

alot of 384k users, me included, get 512k -> close to 1mbit speed tho, but thats just Telkom screwing up their own setups.

This is info i pulled from my router.

Status Information

System Uptime 33 hour(s) 15 minute(s)
DSL Status Connected
DSL Speed 320 Kbps Upstream,
512 Kbps Downstream

hmm with that info, you should be able to get 50k/s+ on telkom speedtest, other than their it may vary from nothing to alot :/

When you read 512k in you router settings when you only have a 384k dsl account, telkom ups the connection on purpose to ensure your maximum speeds of 384k are attainable. This "leeway" is put there to account for transmission errors and interference etc.

My 1024k dsl registers 1384k on my router!
