Hi there
Firstly, I hope I'm in the rihgt section, if not, sorrry...
Here is my problem....,
I'm running wireless in my town from a local supplier. I have XP SP2 on AMD 3.6. Okay, now I have joined these people for 1 1/2 months now, and download at speed of 96kbps (123 if lucky). So, everything okay so far, untill the shop was taken over by new owners. I was offline for two days, and then everything was okay again. Until Friday!!! I had no connection, and on Saturday they came out to fix my problem of no connection.....Problem solved and they left. I wanna download, and noticed that I download only at 12 and 15kbps. My other pc (kids plays on it), is connect through the network, and I was playing around today (15th), on there machine, and noticed that the browsing is faster, and decided to download anyfile. Guess what, I downloaded at 98 and 123kbps. I checked my machine again, downloaded the same file......14kbps. Can someone please give me advice. I ran NOD32 today, no virusses!!! What can I check that is different on these two machines of mine.
Sorry for all the typing here. Only way to explain my problem.

Hi ;)

Did the people who fixed your connection work on the pc that has the problem?

Okay, so they screwed it up it seems.

I guess you are using Windows Xp, so click start>click run>type in: services.msc
press enter.

Look for anything that shows up as bandwidth limiter, or netlimiter. If you find something, stop the service on the left hand pane, test a download and see if it works or not.

You could also run this program:
http://www.windowsstartup.com/isw2.exe

Run it on the computer with the problem and look at the startup entries, you should know more or less which is the offending application ;)

I hope someone else responds too :p

Hi again.
Tried it, both options, there is nothing suspicious in the startup??
I then tried downloading from NVIDIA (benchmarking the whole day) drivers, but the same damn 12kb/ps. It is like being back with landline telkom
Sorry

It's hard for me to say what's wrong, I really don't know except if it was caused by some software ;) I hope someone else comes and helps you ;)

I promised I'd bump this thread for Mr. Lionking.

Do any of you dudes know what's wrong? ;)

Hi Lionking,
Drop me a PVT message regarding your network setup. IPConfig on your PC compared to the other lan PC's - I need some info on your network setup, routing, iptables, routing info etc. More info the better.

Regards,

With what download manager are you downloading the file(s)? If you use any download managers then check that they're not set to throttle the downloads.
