Downloads seem to accellerate?

Speed has been pretty terrible as of late - I'm sure that at least one person here agrees with me..

My downloads start off terribly, but after about half an hour, the speed seems to gradually accellerate to about 25kb/s. Anyone here experience the same?

I'm downloading the latest wine rpm from a sourceforge mirror, BTW.

(note I'm capped) i started a download, it was crawling at 25 - 30 for about a minute and then bam it just jumped to full speed (120 KB/s). I think they're throttling everyone because thier capping system doesn't work properly and they dont want everyone raping bandwith because thier profit projections were dependant on making profit from April.

you seem to have the best luck with iburst slim..

does anybody have a copy of the latest wine version that I can leech? I'm porting a windows app that I wrote to linux and I need wine desperately.

.Net is not my platform (I think I understand you) - and I've had some pretty rough experiences with mono in muine music player and some SDL apps.

I agree

I reckon slim is right ... I've been struggling the whole day with these crappy speeds: VPN's up and down, sites not responding, Skype not working, and the list goes on. Come 6pm, I am actually getting local speeds of over 1Mb/s. :D

Hopefully the throttling will end tomorrow (I recall tomorrow everything should be fixed?)

Happy hunting

maybe they throttle speeds during the day bcuz they need the bandwodth for workin on or something... I somehow doubt they would be throttling bcuz of profits...

but with iburst you can never be sure

maybe they should implement a time based system like ISPs use in the UK, like they consider the day time prime time internet access so if you're capped you get crappy speeds in the day but come 6PM they open the pipe up for capped users to 384 or 512 and while you're not capped you get 1mbit access all day

well the problem is WBS usually leave us to speculate...
due to their very limited involvement in this forum and when they do pop in they usually say something:

I will answer all your question... just no vulgarity
fair?

Then we ask the questions and there is silence... it's happened about two or three times.

Ah well I cant complain really... speeds here are cruising... not capped yet...

PM me tomorrow if you are still battling and i'll arrange something for you ;)

Hi all, I spoke to a support guy at WBS earlier and apparently the speed issue will be resolved by Wednesday, so hold thumbs. Apparently not "everyone" is affected. This service (bursting) seem to work well when there is no traffic in S.A. (like about 1am!).

for me i can get full speed from like 6PM and about 30 - 70 during the day
i hope they mess up again and dont have it fixed by wednesday cuz i'm having the best time raping bandwith while i'm "capped"

i'm happy with my speeds... i use the internet for a lot of research and it has been a complete pleasure with iburst so far.
it would be nice if iburst let us know of problems they might be having :)

April 12, 2005: Slimothy awakens in his home to the throbbing sound of helicopter blades. Looking out his window, he sees the navy-black choppers dropping men in MPAA suits with assault rifles and dropwires onto his roof.

"5hit", slimothy exclaims as he realises that he shouldn't really have incriminated himself like that on the internet.

LOL, how about: "you are violating my constitutional rights by arresting me - I am innocent - someone hacked through my state of the art firewall & downloaded it onto my HDD umm I mean power supply..."

just blame a virus or trojen, they are the flavour of the month to blame for things that shouldn't be there
