My ADSL has synced to this since I got it installed at my new place a couple days ago. Pity im on a Do1 Package at home. Should I phone Telkom and upgrade to 4 meg and request that t goes to 8 meg since my exchange can sync at that?

I have seen this a number of times when a client has a new adsl line installed, but normally syncs back at their ordered speed when verified, and normally only happens when very close to the exchange

Most exchanges are able to sync alot faster than we are currently getting service for.
My local exchange can sync at 10mb down and 1mb up but your line service will determine speed and what what the actual capability of the line is.
Once you verify then you normally get dropped to your speed that you are paying for.

Not entirely on the topic, but kind of related - I just had my line upgraded to Fastest DSL but I am only getting a downstream data rate of 1120. In Jeffreys Bay and Grahamstown, I used to get full 4096. Now I am in Port Alfred and getting a quarter of that speed. Is there anything I can do to get faster access?

Chances are you are too far away from the exchange to get any faster speed.

lol agreed... there would also be another section devoted to ppl ranting about how its not working properly.
