I'm still seriously considering this one... And this review edged me a bit closer to buying one.
I'll get one eventually - my 400D is sounding a bit rough these days so an upgrade is inevitable (if not immediate).
awesome camera for printing very big prints
cool!
I'm sure its good for other things too?

After looking at Jessop's site (ÂŁ2249.00) I'd buy it locally (SACamera R29,599.00), save more than r2k, and enjoy local warranty support.

If you get it from the states you could save r3k (BH Photo - $2,699.95) but still wouldnt have the local warranty.

I pretty much had my mind made up to get a 50D, but after reading this I'm pretty willing to wait and save until I can afford the 5DmkII kit.

Did you see the video from it? Sadly I don't have access to a machine that's fast enough to play it back smoothly. :(

How many clicks have you done?

Can be had for much less if you buy at the right place but yeah, you're still screwed on the warranty.

I'm slightly surprised that the difference in price between the UK, US and SA (not to mention the Far East) have gotten so small.

Yes, I've seen the video.
There are a lot of problems with using it as a video camera. Exposure settings are limited, form factor is bad for vid (have to use screen), only shoots at 30fps. A video camera has to be something practical.

But I won't say no. It sure is a hell of a lot better that the d90's video, which I consider non-existent.

One thing that's disappointing to me somewhat: AF. It has the same system as the 5D - one crosstype, in the center. The rest are the line type (horizontal or vertical, I'm not sure). I don't understand why they didn't upgrade this? The camera is clearly based on the 40D/50D (layout, software, etc), which has a far superior AF system.

Not that that will put me off buying the camera - I'm not afraid of the focus ring. but it is disappointing.

Only 7.7 years of saving left for me before I can buy one - great. Ignoring inflation, price cuts income growth of course

I read this with some surprise:

The RAW comparison confirms what was seen earlier in the JPEG comparison - two sensors from the same manufacturer (designed little more than a year apart) with exactly the same resolution will produce resolution and sharpness indistinguishable from each other. There is nothing to be gained in spending the extra money on the 1Ds Mark III in terms of image quality, be it from a resolution or image noise perspective (at least at ISO 100).

After looking through all their test shots, I thought the 5D mkII is sconsistently sharper than the 1Ds mkIII. Anybody else see that?
