Dr Strange Should've Defeated Thanos Alone

Given how Dr Strange so easily toyed with Thor and Loki at the beginning of Thor: Ragnarok, and how I think he can push one's soul (?) out of one's body like his teacher did, surely he would have been able to beat Thanos alone, given that he had the Time Stone as well.

Thanos was using the power of four stones at the time, two of which could directly counter Dr. Strange - Space and Reality. Strange traps Thanos in a timeloop, Thanos just uses the Space stone to get back to wherever he wants to. Strange uses illusions on him, Thanos uses the Reality stone to counter it (which he does, when he picks the real Strange out of his many duplicates when they fight). Better yet, Thanos uses both at once and sends Strange off to another galaxy in some warped reality of his own making.

Failing that, he just straight nukes him with the Power stone, they way he would nuke Captain Marvel in Endgame.

And finally, being in the possession of the Soul stone, you cannot kill Thanos.

After viewing 14,000,605 alternate outcomes, Strange would've seen Thanos counter everything he could've tried to do.

Even with 4/6 Stones, Thanos was already far too powerful for any one of the Avengers to take down with the possible exception of Vision using the Mind stone to manipulate Thanos.

Ok I see your point. What about an out and out physical attack like we see Strange pulling off in the latest trailer for the Strange movie. Basically cutting a 16 wheeler in two with some kind of projected weapon.

With a physical attack, I think Strange stands even less of a chance. That is Thanos' strongest point. See how he destroys the Hulk in hand-to-hand combat at the start of Infinity War. He doesn't even use any of the stones to do that.

And again, the stones. Thanos uses the Space stone to stop Loki from springing a surprise knife attack on him from point-blank range.

The dude was just too strong at that point.

Ok one final one. Pushing the soul out of the body like was done to Strange and Banner (when he went back in time as smart Hulk). Was Strange capable of doing that, because that would have ended Thanos right there.

Well, we don't know if he was capable of using such a power as the only other person we had seen do it was the vastly more experienced Ancient One. While Strange was on the proverbial fast track to success, he is still learning the ropes.

Then those pesky stones again. With Thanos being in possession of the Soul Stone, I somehow don't think Strange would've been capable of manipulating Thanos' soul in any way.

EDIT: Just to correct something I said earlier, it was the Soul Stone that allowed Thanos to ''see through'' the mirror projections of Strange and locate the real one during their fight, not the Reality Stone.

Dr Strange is likely the strongest Avenger at this point in the MCU, again with the possible exception of Vision, and he gave Thanos a helluva go, but Thanos was just too 'roided up on Infinity Stones.
