Dragon Age and STEAM

Last night, i bought Dragon Age on Steam. Went all out and got the delux super duper edtion at a rather ludacris $65. Started pre-loading as it was advertised to be released "IN ABOUT 3 HOURS!!! This would have made it about 11pm last night.

Woke up this morning, game fully pre-loaded (thanks Axxess for my Express account only to find out that i now have to wait another 2 days, 16hrs beforethe game unlocks.

I think its really mean of Steam to do that. Advertise the American unlock date (In my South African Profile), wait for me to purchase, wait the American release time and then update my profile with the real release date.

I think advertising and ethics have crossed swords here a bit......

This happens regularly with steam. Happend with borderlands as well. Guys bypass it by using a US VPN. Not sure how they do it but that's apperently the method.

Look at the brightside you get to play it before us who have to wait till monday for our retail copies.

I think that releasing a game a few days earlier in one country before anywhere else contributes to piracy. There are already 15 copies on pirate bay.

If i was living in Europe (where there is cheap broadband) and was told to wait for 3 days for a game readily available on pirate bay, i would be tempted to download it instead

Why the hell should the rest of world wait for 3 days? I've never understood the logic behind that.

The wait is due to the physical retailers. New games get put on the shelves on Tuesdays in North America and Fridays in Europe. Obviously the physical shops do not want the digital distributors to start distributing before them so they make deals with the publishers to stop the digital distributors putting it out before them.

Yea the arrogant Americans always want to be different, just look at the sports they play,American Football, baseball ect.

They even call their own baseball league "The World Series" because no one else really plays baseball.

So sad.
