Johannesburg - Two robbers were wounded in a shootout with police and security guards in Midrand on Tuesday morning, Gauteng police said.

Eight armed men robbed the Engen One-stop in Alan Dale Road and took the safe which had between R45 000 to R50 000 inside, said Captain Coebus Halloway.

One robber was shot outside the shop when police arrived.

The gang fled the scene in a rented Imperial car which they got from the OR Tambo International Airport. The registration number was taken and the car was later spotted in Kempton Park.

The occupant was arrested.

Another suspect was spotted near a police station in Rabie Ridge and when he tried to flee from police, he was shot twice on the leg.

"Both wounded suspects are in hospital under police guard," said Halloway.

Police have established that two of them were wanted in other criminal cases, and one of them was granted bail last week.

How on earth are these guys able to get away at any kind of speed... the last few times I went through Allandale the traffic was at a crawl.

Seriously, how do these guys get anywhere fast? The highways are clogged!

The Engen One Stop is on the other side of the highway towards Kempton Park and they must have fled in that direction.
 
That journalist needs to go back to grade 0.
Start with the basics; crayons and colouring books.
