Greetings Fellow Forum Fundi's...

Not my normal post's but looking for a bit of advice...

Many moons ago, I use to draw animated characters, one of my many hidden talents, and for years use to scribble away on pen and paper, enjoyed drawing with a black fineline...

About a decade back, when i became tech savvy , I bought me a genius tablet of sorts..... thought I could draw onto a pc...... great for adding colour to a drawing, however, I was mightly disappointed..... how on earth could I use a stumpy awkward to handle stylus pen to draw, it felt ***...... that fat nib, not allowing me to draw my finer details....... on top of that, nowhere to rest the palm of my hand when drawing, so I dumped the tablet into a box and there she remained for a decade.....

Now many hangovers later, I re discovered my tablet, still think it is rubbish and got to wondering if there was "newer" tablets that had overcome my above failings of using a tablet?

What about turning my IPAD into a drawing tablet?

Have a keen urge to try drawing again....

Get a Microsoft Surface Pro 2, it has a Wacom drawing system built-into the tablet, and comes with the pen.

And it is a good PC, and a good tablet.

Don't get the SP3, it uses N-Trig circuitry and there are no drivers for that.

If you have an IPAD and are looking to get a stylus... I've heard there are some pretty good ones but the tech is still very far behind what is used in a stand alone drawing tablet that you hook up to a PC.

Here's what I would suggest you'd look at:

No idea how much it would cost to buy one of these. You'd need to contact the suppliers, DDS, and see what they have to say.

If you are maybe thinking about getting a drawing tab to hook up to a pc/laptop, you can get an entry level Wacom for between R1000 and R2000. Stay away from Genuis, they've gotten better but they're still not quite as good as Wacom. That being said they are usually half the price.

If you're looking for Software I can recommend Sketchbook Pro.

Works perfectly :)

I believe that Adobe recently released a couple of free apps, but also an odd stylus and ruler thingy that allows you to draw freehand or constrained (straight) lines (details). "Requires iPad (4th generation), iPad Air, iPad Mini or iPad Mini with Retina display."

Takealot and Kalahari sells the Wacom. Not sure of any other retailers
I've seen what the Wacom can deliver and was impressed.

Yeah, but last time I checked the didn't sell the IPAD stylus. Maybe they do now but DDS is usually very helpful in regards to tracking down niche wacom products.

Wacom is the best, but they also cost. I have an older Kanvus tablet which isn't too bad. There's a bit of a delay between using the pen and something happening which is something to get used to.

Otherwise its really just a question of software, of which there are tons of good options out there.

I recommend galaxy note pro. Huge awesome screen really accurate wacom stylus. Look on YouTube for how awesome it is
