DrayTek is slowly becoming a big player in the local modem/router market.
Looking at the type of feedback we get from our readers, DrayTek is slowly becoming a big player in the local modem/router market.
This month I decided to look at the Vigor 120, an ADSL modem that can be used in basic home setups, or you can use it in conjunction with a router should you need to unlock some of the advanced features of your router. This small box features a single Ethernet port alongside the RJ-11 telephone socket. If you already own a switch, you can simply connect this modem to your switch, should you wish to share the connection among a number of PCs. But if that were your requirement, a router would be a better option for you. Once logged into the unit, the familiar DrayTek interface will allow you to configure the firewall or set up this unit in bridge mode.
In terms of other features, the Vigor 120 sports PPPoA/PPPoE bridging (WAN to LAN), command-line interface (and HTTP interface), and content filtering, such as URL filtering, time-schedule control, and multimedia file blocking. The last little feature we love is the auto-sensing on the network port. This means that you can connect this modem directly to your PC without the need for a crossover cable.
