The Vigor2820n is a premium-brand router featuring all the bells and whistles and some more. It has an excellent wireless range and features outstanding throughput speeds when used with 802.11n-enabled wireless equipment on your network.
When you’re serious about security and stability on your wired network and optimal coverage, resilience and speed on your wireless network, you need to make an informed decision before purchasing a wireless router for your business.
DrayTek’s latest product in its premium Vigor line of ADSL and broadband/firewall offerings, the Vigor2820n, is a product that’s a cut above the rest. And believe us, we’ve put it to the test and it passed with flying colours. The 2820n features a new stylish case design and DrayTek’s new DrayOS 3 operating system.
Yes, this a heavyweight router that delivers everything that a router of this calibre should. The 2820n is packed with features and is compatible with all variants of ADSL (including ADSLMax and ADSL2+). It features several connectivity options including a WAN port for PPPoE connections, an ADSL port and two ISDN ports.
In addition to these, it also has a USB port into which you can plug a 3G data card, just in case you lose connectivity on your ADSL connection (which often happens) or your PPPoE connection. So, all connectivity bases are covered and the 2820n provides exceptional fallback options (if you have an ADSL link, a secondary ADSL modem, a cable-link modem and a 3G modem connected to it).
It also sports four Gigabit Ethernet ports that provide a high-speed uplink to your servers on your network or a connected switch. Network security is taken care of by a built-in OSbased firewall, protecting connected workstations and servers from IPbased attacks, and your network from DoS (Denial of Service) attacks.
The object-based firewall provides excellent setup flexibility, allowing you to create combinations of users allowed different types of access to services on your network. You can for example set restrictions on Internet access, block the downloading of certain file types, block certain Websites (for obvious reasons) and prevent access to IM and peer-to-peer applications.
The 2820n supports the 802.11n (Draft 2.0) standard with packet aggregation, channel bonding and a tripleantenna MIMO setup, providing 802.11n wireless equipment on your network with throughput speeds of up to 300Mbps.
We tested this feature extensively and DrayTek’s claims are not just claims, but fact. The 2820n comes bundled with an 802.11n starter kit, which includes an 802.11n-enabled Vigor N61 USB wireless adapter (drivers for this transceiver are compatible with XP and Vista).
The DrayTek Vigor2820n is an excellent router and is highly recommended by us. Ask for it by name and don’t let some hapless salesperson try to sell you anything inferior. You know what your needs and expectations of a router are.
