Hi all

I've finally broken away from MS Frontpage and have started using Dreamweaver. I'm enjoying it a lot so far, but a few things still need getting used to. I like the fact that it doesn't make the folders 'dirty' with all that vti_cnf crap that Frontpage does and the fact that my php code is in colour rocks. I don't like the way it handles tables though, but I supposed I will get use to it. It just seemed easier to manage in FP. How many of you dudes and dudettes use DW ?

In particular what dont you like about the way it handles tables?

Dreamweaver is 1000% more advanced than FP. However the best way to code HTML is manually in a text editor, but requires that you know the code off by heart. I dont know it all by a long shot but try learn as much HTML as you can even though you are still using a WYSIWYG interface. It helps you understand what Dreamweaver is doing and can enable you to fix and improve and understand things like tables.

Dunno about that Freshy-ZN. I'd say its essential to know how to code HTML manually for trouble-shooting but I wouldnt say its necessarily the best way esp when speed is a necessity.

Sure. What I meant is just that if one has a thorough understanding of the code (and could do it manually) then it can speed up things in Dreamweaver as you can clean up or optimise the code. I also hate doing tables in a GUI. Knowing the code and not just using Dreamweaver to do it is helpful:)

I don't think I've spent more than 10 minutes in Dreamweaver's design mode. I find the code mode so much faster and easier. The whole thing works nicely for me and I find that for speed of development nothing even compares.

Frontpage is for the devil, kids and old people, dreamweaver is leet:P

@lord_spaceman

You should start now and get into the habbit of using CSS layout, appart from being a web standard it is also a must if you ever plan on leaving SA and doing work abroad.

If you a fan of vi your should really try vim
