I know that the Drifta is not using data to transfer video, but when using it on my laptop where I am monitoring data usage, I see download traffic of approx 2-5 Mb/s while the Drifta is running.

Any ideas what this traffic is for? I suspect it is not internet traffic, but it still appears as if my machine is downloading something while using the Drifta.

The Drifta uses wifi, so it transfers data from the Drifta to your viewing device (assume not plugged in via USB).

This does not affect your internet cap, it is only an internal transfer between your devices (intranet).

Data monitoring apps usually have a setting to select all networks, or a specific network to monitor. In your case it seems it's monitoring your wi-fi too, just tweak the settings.

Maybe I need to be clearer:

I connect Drifta to my laptop via USB.
I am connected to the LAN via ethernet
Wi-Fi is disabled

The Drifta is a mobile TV decoder that receives DVB-H signal and converts it into a Wi-Fi signal for Wi-Fi enabled viewing devices: laptops, PCs, tablets and smartphones. By connecting via USB it requires a network link to your PC for (a) power and (b) data traffic.

The traffic will be between your PC and the Drifta. It does not receive any signal via your internet connection (barring a malware/spyware infestation!).

Is the data coming from Drifta into the laptop via USB perhaps presented to the laptop as network traffic?

I have now noticed in the Windows Task Manager, Network tab that my LAN connection has no traffic, while another LAN connection (LAN 4) shows the traffic my notwork monitor has been reporting on.

This was like explaining a problem to a colleague and finding the solution yourself while still explaining.

Thanks all.
