it doesn't want to add it to the exception list, as it seems a threat already...had to uninstall it

sitting with no a/v at the moment, only firewalls and malwarebytes keeping me safe for the time being

Use Avira or Avast - both are free with pretty good detection rates - in fact as per the last AV comparatives iirc they've got better detection rates than AVG -combine it with a firewall like Comodo and you're fairly safe. I know if you add an exception on Avira it works.
