Hi All

I am about to finally upgrade to an HD PVR from a SD PVR but now have choices to make as follows:

1) Purchase a new HD PVR for R1400
2) Purchase an HD PVR + Drifta combo for R1700

Is the drifta worth it at R300 or should I just save the cash?

Save the Money unless you are a Die Hard Sports fan of sorts who simply can not miss that game.

Wait for a special at Hi-Fi/ Makro where HD PVR goes for R1199 and save even more :)

Checked Makro they are R1 cheaper than above on current specials.

I bought two of those combo specials @ Makro a couple of weeks ago.

I kept the one drifta & easily sold the other for R500 in the Junkmail.

Just remember that you need a Premium DSTV subscription to get the mobile channels for free. In addition, it is only free until March 2013.

So, I would say buy the special & sell the Drifta.

The answer depends on your situation.

This is a great addition if you have more viewers in the house than dstv screens, if you don't have TV in your bedroom or if you sometimes spend time away from home (but within the coverage area of the cities).

At R300 and if you are already on premium, that's a worthwhile bet.

As others have said, if you'll use the Drifta then its worth it. My Drifta lives in my office at work and only gets used once or twice a month but its essentially free after the initial layout so why not

Be careful when buying any DSTV product. My experience with the Drifta:
Problem: Android device shows "Cannot reach authentication server".
The sad and sorry story: After asking for resolution (from DSTV service and call centres, Email, HelloPeter I got lots of useless talk/promises to come back, ignorance and instructions) for several weeks without any resolution to my problem (yes, it becomes your problem)- it now appears as if this service has be unceremoniously terminated.

I invested in the equipment, have and still are, paying for the service. I demand to be recompensed.
