drive has gone in UBUNTU??

Im not the proff here, apparently you are.

Seriously, if you not bothered to read everything, then rather keep the comments to yourself

You have issues here is all I can say. I trust South_Bit explicitly (He has helped many a people here) and I have not seen him screw anybody over to date. I wish you the best of luck in your data recovery endeavours.

You don't deserve this but just so us people who hang out in the Linux forum don't get a rep for being unhelpful:

* You haven't told us make/model of drive - check here for the official test software for your drive: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/tp/tophddiag.htm - the manufacturers should know a thing or two about their products plus you can swop the drive between disk channels to exclude motherboard issues.

* You say this is an educational exercise - do some reading on primary & secondary partition tables to discover why I/O errors on sectors 0 & 625142440 might be a tad more serious than a sector 4007 error.

* Linux is just an operating system not a arcane magic bullet for fixing problems. Sometimes it can do things Windows can't because it's open source but that doesn't make it the Swiss Army Knife of operating systems.

Finally, I think you owe South_Bit and Elimentals an apology - but that's up to you.

if you bothered to read the rest of what I took the time to write, you would see that plenty of other people are getting this I/O error on sector 0, and its got stuff all do with a failing device.

Am I saying that mine is NOT failing? No Im not. Im not the proff here, apparently you are.

thanks :)

You are so full of ****, bad day or not.

People take a lot of time to try help you and give you advice and all you have in reply is "Hey, F$&% you!, but look, I added a smiley at the end, so if you take offence to this then it's your fault, I'm the good guy here!"
That's the way this quoted reply comes off.

Maybe try: Thanks for taking the time to try help me. I have tried your reccomendations and unfortunately they do not work for me. Anyone have any further advice?"

I might know exactly how to sort out your problem but due to your attitude there would be very little chance of me bothering.

And your childish attitude of not helping me makes you a better person how? Exactly...

Not that I CARE or OWE YOU ANYTHING I sent a personal apology to each person in this thread that I might upset. Coz you know what, people DO have off days. You might not, but I can say that right now I've had the best evening ever and you can still stick your "solution" right up your nose!!!!

That is all :)
