Drive letter changed; how to reset W2K's "start path"...

My HDD is partitioned...

I changed the drive letter of my second partition [not BOOT]...

I now cannot boot up on this second partition any longer.

The error relates to the NTOSKERNEL.

Now obviously this is because W2K's boot path has changed...yet the likely simple solution to this problem alludes me at present.

I blame it on El Nino.

Any idea's?

Find the hidden file "boot.ini" on your system partition. Make sure the partition # is correct.

Otherwise, boot with the W2K CD, choose recovery option, go into dos prompt and run the commands "fixboot" and "fixmbr". That should sort things out.

Hey Franna,

Yup, the boot.ini is file is correct.

It was slightly modified by me, but it worked before, and still works now.

After I select which OS [read: partition] to boot, then only do I get the error once I select the second partition.

If I run the W2K CD recovery option, will this affect my sytem partition too, and will it reverse any updates/changes to my system on either partition other than fixing the above issue?

Is it possible to manually edit partition numbers?

Update...

I tried Franna's Recovery Console tip; no problems experienced.

...but it did not solve the issue.

I changed the partition number in my boot.ini file though, and this got it working.

The number had changed from partition 2 to partition 3.

All is working now, but I still have a query though...
