Guys, I'm a bit stumped here and wondering wth is going on with Win7.

So I'm sharing a drive (300Gb, full of music) over the network, works fine. Everyone has read access and can access it.

I decide to share another drive (2Tb, almost full). I do the same things I did, i.e., share the drive and give everyone read access to it.

Although others can see the share, no one can access it. Even if I try to get there on the $ share using the Admin credentials, I still cannot get in.

We have also tried by assigning a new drive name in C:\ and sharing that shortcut, also did not work.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Have you set Permissions? Right-click > Properties > Security then set permissions.

Yep, did that, still nothing.

*edit*

If you want to share an entire drive in Win 7:

1. Set the security FIRST to Everyone (read-only)
2. The only share it and set the permissions to the relevant users/Everyone

For some reason this works because by setting the security first, Everyone gets ownership of the objects on that drive. And then share it normally, which then allows users to access the objects on the drive.

Install Linux with Samba :D

I dunno wtf is up with windows sharing since vista came out, it seems to be a hit and miss affair.

"Hit and miss affair"??? "Sharing as difficult as possible"???

Ridiculous.

It works exactly as good IT practice, security and control protocols and practices say it should. Millions upon millions of serious IT people understand that.
