ALL TERRAIN TACTICS – DRIVER TRAINING COURSE
To be declared a competent driver, and to obtain a Driver Certificate of Competency, you
have to go out and complete a course, be assessed, and loaded onto the national learners’
database. This is not simply another 4x4 course – but one that has been specially
formulated to obtain a Driver Certificate of Competency (DCC) against unit standards that
have been passed by the South African Qualifications Authority. In the future without a
DCC, you will be limited to the areas you can explore and enjoy in your 4x4. Go ahead and
do the training, allowing yourself the opportunity to go where you want to in full
accordance with the law.
The unit standards unit standards for 4x4 training fall under the auspices of the Transport
SETA (Sector Education and Training Authority) which is called TETA. TETA have also
approved our training service provider and the course material as well as instructors and
course moderators.
Cross Country have identified The African Outdoor Group (AOG) as their preferred
service provider for driver training. AOG is an accredited off road training facility 40
minutes away from Johannesburg in the beautiful Magaliesburg. All the AOG facilities
nationwide will be accredited with the transport SETA known as TETA and the venues
will all have the necessary accreditation and approval to allow driver training to be
conducted on their premises.

Set of Unit standards for 4x4 training, under the auspices of the Transport SETA
DEA (Department of Environment Affairs) – Appointed by the Government to take care
of our environmentally sensitive areas
NOW (National Off Road Workgroup) - developed over the last two years in conjunction with
key stakeholders and DEA) has as a key component the concept of driver competency.
Their mission statement is- to ensure the sustainability of Africa’s treasure trove or
resources through the education of our members and to prevent its selfish
destruction through over utilization and ignorance.
DCC – DRIVER CERTIFICATE OF COMPENTENCY
Government are instituting the DCC for the same reason as the beach ban was implemented - as
certain individuals are abusing the environment – areas like the whole of the Richtersveld
National Park, and the 4x4 routes in the Kruger National Park will require drivers to obtain their
DCC as these are environmentally-sensitive areas.
