He is a fool if he is doing this AND still paying rate taxes to the municipality.
But, I admire his bravery and determination.

I agree with the sentiment, however, the downside to that is that if you do government's work for them, they will keep on collecting your taxes but what would you receive in return .. ?

we need more of people like him in this country. if we dont take initiative, not only with the road, the ending, if any, will be disastrous

Not sure if its govt, but rather municipality.
It is ridiculous though.
4 months and our potholes have not been touched.
Cars actually drive onto pavement cos its better.

Seriously though, wtf do we pay rates for.
The road that we use, used to have a few houses on it - so, ther were few cars.
Now there are 4 huge complexes, atleast a 1000 more cars.
But we are all paying rates right.
Dumbasses

It is nice to see.

I have to agree with the government on this one though.

Supposing that guy fixes a pothole, it gets washed away (or whatever) someone drives into it and gets killed or hurt.
Who is liable?

The council, for not fixing it in the first place.

Had it not been fixed by the concerned citizen, the pothole would have been WORSE (assuming that no further damage is done to the road while "fixing" the hole)

LMAO...GOOD MAN!I've been thinking of starting a comunity movement like this myself..we should stop complaining to deaf ears and stupid people...and rather fix it ourselves!

To answer your question, legally govt will still be liable.

The function of roads was not privatised or outsourced to this person. It remains a function of government and they remain liable for any damages.

If he fixes it, it breaks again, then it is back to square one? neh?
Still gauvamints fault.

What next? They going to arrest me for having ADT because the police are dysfunctional? Should Discovery Health be closed down?

ARREST? ARREST!!!!
Would actually be good for SA if they do arrest him. The sooner this thing comes to a boiling point the better. Ideally with court sessions being broadcast. If he does get arrested though he should ask for donations from ppl so that he can hire some hot shot lawyers & stick to the man. Right now the gov is just ignoring everything & making excuses. That becomes a lot more difficult if you're standing in front of a judge.

The local municipality should be held accountable. There are still a number of fully functioning municipalities in SA. I have yet to see a pothole in the Metropolis of the WC for more than a few days before it's repaired.
Most of my family live in Gauteng - in Centurion and Kempton Park, potholes are repaired within a week after reporting it.

Unfortunately 8/9 of the country lie outside of the WC. A pity really.

the metaphor here is that if citizens can manage their infrastructure, surely citizens can manage other sections of society; perhaps a new party really needs to be started where real citizens,
instead of bots, fix things...distribute
