Good Morning Guys,

Does anyone know the fine for being 10 months late on drivers license renewal on the East Rand........

If thats true i am dancing on the ceiling right now!

Why would there be a fine? Remember, this isn't like a motor license, which attracts an annual fee - and the "penalties" are just what you would have paid to begin with. I renewed my drivers license a few months back, it had been expired for months prior to that. No fines to be paid for late renewal. ;)

You will have to pay extra for a temporary license though, so make sure you bring extra cash (some of them have card machines now).

That's not compulsory . I barely get stopped by a cop so didn't even bother. Why waste R70 ...

Depends if you want to risk the R500 fine if you get stopped, but he's lasted this long without one. Not sure you can deselect the option anyway.

Went to renew my drivers license last week Friday.

Took almost 4 hours at Akasia Pretoria. Waltloo testing station is closed due to "their equipment were stolen". I heard Rayton is also closed.

Take:
a pen.
Cash (R300). Was R228 for the drivers and R72 for the temp. And extra cash if you need the photo.
Your ID and copy of your ID.
A single photo if you need a temp license.
I would take proof of residence as well, although I was never asked for this.

Process were as follows:
Stand in queue at 7:15
received a form to complete while in queue
eventually got into the building at +- 10:00
sit in queue
hand over form, ID and ID copy. do eye tests and photo
sit in queue to pay and get the temp license
left at about 11:00

Takes about +-4 weeks before you can collect.
