Drivers so large

Why are drivers so large. I lost my printer CD and need to install it again. I found the drivers but the download is 166MG. Thats a full days ADSL worth of download. Is this usual I thought IE8 download was large but this seems worse?

You are probably downloading drivers AND print applications together. Normally you will find a much smaller file which is just the drivers and all you really need.

Yet try as I may I cannot find anywhere to download the "basic" one

Yea, HP have messed up again, nothing new.
The next best bet is to try the drivers for the next printer model, the 1315, but they weigh in at a hefty 36MB, and they may not work.

What make and model printer do you have?

+1. Language files, etc. The driver itself is probably no more than 5 - 7 meg.

Dowloaded the "big one" 171mg. It worked ok except can't scan though?
