Droooooooooooooool :)~

So it would take more time to read this thread than it would do to burn through your 3gb cap. Still - why anyone would want anything faster than 512 is beyond me - thanks Telkom!

Well I can tell you that watching live TV channels streamed over broadband is a good reason, and if not TV then Vodeo Conferencing - Vodacom's HSDPA demo was impressive ;).

IC, you have to elaborate a lot more on what you saw at Vodacom IMO. You need to do it soon because I for one am very intrigued by what you saw and how it will be brought to marker by Vodacom.

I had to read the first post in the thread again. I am so conditioned to SA bandwith limitations to such at extent that the Headline registered on my mind as

Hong Kong Broadband Launches 1 Mbps Home Service for US$215/month

And then when I saw the responses i realised my error.

How on Earth do Home Users get 1 Gbps pipe ?

I work for a large organisation that has what I thought was a "massive 8 mbps" link to the ISP.

I am trully drooling !

One question though....

1 Gbps is approx 125MB/s right ?

Is there a hard disk drive out there that can match that data rate ?

Unless ofcourse that link is shared with others on a lan.

Imagine If were Iburst offering that service ... You'd reach your Cap in 25 seconds.

Yip, it is indeed 125Mbps although I wonder if the servers can handle those amount of speeds if it is only in 1 country...

I know - I'm just being facetious - I'm just getting fed up with being stuck in the digital doldrums.

BTW - Kudos on your meeting with Vodacom - I'm sure you and rpm did us proud. What's encouraging is how seriously they're taking MyBroadband. Of course with number portability around the corner the cellphone carriers should take heed. Now if only Telkom would sit up and take notice.

Yeah, I think that both Telkomonopoly and Sentech painted themselves into a corner by not taking MyADSL/MyBroadband seriously, IMO it is time that they decided to unpaint themselves out of that corner - Telkomonopoly & Sentech need to go out & buy some TipEx...:D
